Why A Ceilidh?

A ceilidh is the ideal format to ensure that your wedding, party or function is a successful and enjoyable evening for all. With formalised dances, explained and led by an experienced caller, your guests will be encouraged onto the dance floor in what is the ideal way to bring together different social groups attending your event in the most enjoyable of ways.

A Flexible Format

The beauty of the ceilidh is that, with a such a wealth of timeless traditional dance music on which to draw, the format is perfectly adaptable to the needs of a particular occassion or group of people. You can be sure that The Crawstep Ceilidh Band will take into account any special requests you might have regarding the content or pacing of your event. We will also be sensitive to the particular qualities of your group of guests, whether that be their experience or knowledge of dances or perhaps the mix of age groups, and do our utmost to ensure that the music and dances are as suitable as possible.

A Social Event

The Crawstep Ceilidh Band is very aware of the fact that we will be providing music and dance for a social event and that, while our aim is to encourage as many people as possible up onto the dance floor, some of your guests may prefer to sit and listen to the music or perhaps take the opportunity to chat to other guests. Because of this fact we are keen to provide the highest quality of music to listen to as well as dancing to, and to deliver it at a volume which is appropriate for dancing but also for conversation. We would much rather be told to turn it up than to turn it down! We use the highest quality of PA system - the revolutionary Bose L1 -the emphasis of which is on compactness of design and clarity of sound.

The Wedding Ceilidh

A typical wedding ceilidh would be a three to four hour event, including a break in the middle during which time refreshments or a buffet could be served. It would usually begin with the bride and groom starting the dancing with a waltz - an ideal opportunity for photographs - before the bridal party and, finally, other guests are invited to join them on the dance floor. The evening's dancing will then begin in earnest and the bridal party will have the opportunity to relax and socialise while the band makes the rest of the evening go with a swing!

While this is a typical format, The Crawstep Ceilidh Band are always delighted to tailor the evening's events to your individual needs or wishes.

The Crawsep Ceilidh Band is a group of versatile professional musicians and, as such, we are able to offer a variety of musical packages for your day. We could, for example provide Scottish slow airs or a classically orientated programme for your ceremony, or perhaps some light or jazzy music to accompany your meal.
